note to self: i’ll be there for you, always

written june 6, 2021. Photo by Kristine Cinate on Unsplash I have always looked for myself in other people. I think the idea was that they would somehow hold the pieces of me that I felt were missing. That maybe, if I wrapped my identity up in theirs enough, we would somehow make a whole person. It's not healthy to live like this, but I did it anyway — burning through relationships and searching for something I couldn't quite name. It was never enough, not to be myself, but it was never enough to latch my identity to other people, either. I got close, several times — I thought I had reached the pinnacle of self discovery. I thought I had completed myself. But in the end, relying on other people to help build yourself is never a viable way to do things. It's only recently that I've started to become comfortable with the idea of being enough, as I am, on my own. Several years ago, in this same position, I would have searched for another person to attach my identity onto,

oh look, a vlog!

So, as some of you know, Georgie Penn came to visit me for a week. She leaves tomorrow, but we've had a great time and today we decided to record a vlog for you guys. We took some time to talk about NaNoWriMo--mostly about how we don't have a plot, but also about our NaNo experiences in previous years. It's 12 minutes long, just fyi. But it's 12 minutes of awesomeness, people.

Aaaand here is the update about Beautiful People you've all been waiting for...

One final announcement: I forgot to specify how long The New Recruit giveaway lasts. It'll end on November 1st, the same day NaNo starts, so if you haven't entered yet, go and do so now.

  3. Yayyyz! I finally get to hear Sky's VOICE!! And you two are so funny - definitely get together again to make more vlogs. ;)
    "I feel like I'm its....aunt." :D

About what you were saying about your other novels being 'trash' - well, first of all they're not but I know what you mean, as I have novels like that too. But anyways, I heard somewhere that usually you have to write two novels before you get anything worth publishing, like "Silver Tears." So I think that's a normal thing. It has been for me - I wrote two dumb novels and then got "Torn Heart" which I self-published.

I did Nano last year for the first time. I had always been skeptical of it but I took the plunge and I am so glad I did! It was one of the most fun things I have ever done - and I did win. *phew* Favorite character was my FMC, Dust, who's just this sweet, gentle, rather ditzy girl who is still tough at the same time...she sticks out like a sore thumb in the place where she lives.

    Again, I loved your vlog.

I always loved doing Beautiful People but gracious do I understand being too busy for it, so whatever you guys do I'm perfectly okay with.

I'm still in shock NaNo is just in...4 days now? O_O I have an outline and everything but still...NaNo came SO FAST.

Good luck to both of you!! <3
