note to self: i’ll be there for you, always

written june 6, 2021. Photo by Kristine Cinate on Unsplash I have always looked for myself in other people. I think the idea was that they would somehow hold the pieces of me that I felt were missing. That maybe, if I wrapped my identity up in theirs enough, we would somehow make a whole person. It's not healthy to live like this, but I did it anyway — burning through relationships and searching for something I couldn't quite name. It was never enough, not to be myself, but it was never enough to latch my identity to other people, either. I got close, several times — I thought I had reached the pinnacle of self discovery. I thought I had completed myself. But in the end, relying on other people to help build yourself is never a viable way to do things. It's only recently that I've started to become comfortable with the idea of being enough, as I am, on my own. Several years ago, in this same position, I would have searched for another person to attach my identity onto,

Beautiful People: Friendship Edition

Hello, and welcome to another edition of Beautiful People! August 2nd was National Friendship Day, and to celebrate we've got a collection of questions about your friendships. So pick your favorite pair of buddies from your novel and let's get started!

But first... an introduction.

Aside from a long hiatus, BP has been in existence for 4 years now!

What is Beautiful People?
Beautiful People is a blog meme hosted by myself and the ever-awesome Cait @ Paper Fury. Every month, we post ten questions to help you get to know your characters better.

How do I join?
Just jump in! Snag the questions, post them on your blog, and come back to add your link! I also recommend checking out the posts of the other participants. It's a great way to make new friends.

Please also give Cait and I a link back--whether through a regular link, or these shiny blog buttons:

You can also check out our archive and our FAQ.

And now for the questions!
  1. How long have they known each other, and how close are they?
  2. What’s their earliest memory of being best friends?
  3. Do they fight? How long do they typically fight for?
  4. Are their personalities similar or do they compliment each other?
  5. Who is the leader of their friendship (if anyone)?
  6. Do have any secrets from each other?
  7. How well do they know each other’s quirks and habits?
  8. What kind of things do they like to do together?
  9. Describe each character’s fashion style (use pictures if you’d like!) How are their styles different/similar?
  10. How would their lives be different without each other?

Friendships in fiction are one of my favorite things. We can't wait to hear about yours!

What's been going on with you guys? How's your WIP? What is your favorite friendship you've ever written?

  1. Yay, I love linking up with this feature :D :D I have to admit, I haven't many friendships in my novel, but I rebelled slightly and twisted the theme to fit my problematic fave antagonist duo XD
